2013 Madden Cover Odds Favor Cam Newton To Win Vote
April 3rd, 2012 | Author: BryanAs is generally the case with popularity contests, this year’s 2013 Madden Cover race is intriguing on a number of levels. Some sports personalities, namely ESPN’s Colin Cowherd, maintain that the Madden audience is a more sophisticated brand of football fans than most really realize. As such, he predicts that they will select their cover athlete based on merit, not just sheer, inexplicable fan love (read: Tim Tebow fans).
Last season’s rookie phenom, Cam Newton, is the favorite to win the Madden contest this year at 2/3 on Madden Cover Odds available at Bovada Sportsbook. Apparently, even though the Panthers aren’t especially popular and despite the fact that Newton didn’t actually lead them to a winning record, his individual merits are perceived to be enough to make him deserving of this honor.
Two NFC North superstars, Calvin Johnson and Aaron Rodgers, are also among the favorites to win the Madden cover. Johnson is listed at 7/2 to win the contest this season (and coming off his massive new contract, his profile has probably never been higher). Meanwhile, Rodgers is coming off a historically amazing run last season, and as such (despite the Green Bay Packers’ disappointing playoffs flameout) is being listed at 11/2.
New England Patriots fan favorite Rob Gronkowski — who may or may not still be injured — is listed at 7/1. And Victor Cruz, the wide receiver who played opposite Gronkowski’s Patriots en route to a Super Bowl title last year, is listed at 10/1.
Beloved undrafted Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is being listed at 18/1 to win the honor this year, as is Baltimore Ravens stud running back Ray Rice. Despite the fact that he doesn’t have the new long-term contract he wants yet, Drew Brees is listed at 25/1 to win the cover this year, and LeSean McCoy (who actually promised a title this year while campaigning for the honor on ESPN) is being listed at 25/1.
Other potential sleepers to watch in this tournament are Marshawn Lynch (25/1), Maurice Jones-Drew (25/1), Patrick Willis (25/1), Antonio Gates (40/1) and Darrelle Revis (40/1).
